Scars on your soul ( On child abuse)

by Ingrid   Aug 30, 2008

The foundation on which each life is built
is the knowledge that you are loved and wanted
When a child is deprived of such,
how will it survive without being haunted?

The sweet childhood memories cherished by his peers
are not his, for abuse and neglect filled his days
How does one develop a feeling of self worth,
whilst deprived of the means to grow in so many ways?

To love and accept yourself
when no one ever showed you how
is the toughest challenge to face,
but you had better start learning it now.

To break the circle of violence,
to not do as you father did
is the only way this world will ever change
You are free to live your life as you see fit!

To look back in anger and regret
will leave your mind in an eternal spin
Close the door on yesterday
to free yourself of the prison you are in

Be good to yourself, make a success of your life
The only way to prove your parents wrong
is to break free from their chains
and start singing your own song.

Many of us have faced abuse. I have too, in many ways. I decided to break the circle and do it differently. My son has had the best childhood anyone could ever wish for, while I had none at all. This was my way of making my parents see where they went wrong.
If we want to change the world, we have to start with ourselves first....and so I did:)
