Mommy Said I Need To Find Myself.

by Stephanie   Sep 22, 2008

I'm sick of writing the lines,
With desperation in each one -
Only to erase them all eventually,
Because the hurt can't be undone.

I'm standing in this shadow
With no hand to hold but my own.
Looking for some recognition,
Something to prove I'm not alone.

But when the sun shines brightly,
I can't speak through these tears,
Because the world gets so dark,
So clouded by these empty fears.

And I can't run from myself,
When all the lights burn away.
I've tried a million and one times,
But I'm still seeing night in the day.

I've tried erasing the lines,
Only to end up with confetti -
Because I'm so damn alone now,
In this crowded, lifeless city.

And mommy once said I need to find myself,
To find the thing that makes me special.
So I keep searching for my heart,
In amidst all of this useless, backyard rubble.

"I'm sick of writing the lines,

Excellent opening, your words really capture my heart and captivate my mind. Your wording is so sad and heartbreaking.

"But when the sun shines brightly,
I can't speak through these tears,
Because the world gets so dark,
So clouded by these empty fears."

I like how here and in this whole poem, you really express yourself and how you feel nicely. Great rhyming, and flow used too.

Beautifully written, I really enjoyed this write from you. 5/5 from me. Keep writing, always and forever..
