A Stranger : Part II

by january friend   Feb 26, 2009

So I pack a few things and he takes me away from here
then I realize I did not know and ask him his name
"I don't remember," he replies
"But worry not now, I am no one to fear"

He seems to lead me forever, through space and though time
he speaks softly of the creatures who dwell here
those who call this place home
"But keep an eye on that star, or it will leave you behind"

"Keep in mind when you follow this path, there is something that you should know
the trees are clever, they move swift,
the river's cunning, they cut new paths
through the rocks I'll lead you, by friend or by foe"

He talks to the trees, but his mind seems to be gone
he watches after the smallest creatures
he listens to the whispering secrets of the wind
he's sad for the old, who finally say so long

We come up to a house, standing all alone
it stands there in the forest
with a river to the north
"It's not much, but it's what I call home"

"That river there," he pointed out, "flows all the way to the sea
it's a path throughout the entire land
twists through the mountains and valleys
it belongs to us all, but the one who bears the burden is me"

"Men care not for the trees nor the mountains anymore
they waste life away looking for treasure
though they'll never find anything but nothing
but I have something to live for"

I turn and ask him if it is something he regrets
"The people I've lost, and why the rest don't understand
the sorrow I've seen but not the pain endured
But you're not like them. You, I'm glad I met"

We sit and watch the fog slowly creep over top the hill
talking in tired voices of better days
or maybe better times, not like today
for the first time, I'm happy, the earth stands still

"It would be great to live, just us, you and I"
he tells me, and I agree to stay
together we will watch over everything
immortal we will live, until the day we die

I'm glad there was a part two because it is stunning. I love the piece. I mean the story is so unusual but it was interesting. I love the imagery in both parts and I love the way that you worded this part. Everything just feels so... perfect. Fantastic job.

Yes i forgot to put a comment on stranger part 2. I left this was more open. I loved the Line
"he listens to the whispering secrets of the wind" i'm so envious. I left some sympathy in stanza 8. also the ending is so (well i cant think a word for it) just incredible really.
    "we will watch over everything
immortal we will live, until the day we die. I really wish i would have thought that for an ending to one of mine.
