There for you

by Chelo   Sep 17, 2009

I was always there for you,
from needing a pencil to a hug.
but you never noticed me as a lover,
I tried to impress you by acting like a thug,
which you never paid attention to.
my heart would hurt when you would flirt,
it would kill me inside.
but I had to remember you weren't mine.
your boyfriend just had you so he can say he had a girl,
he didn't know how to appreciate you,
all he was waiting for was to lay you.
while I loved you.
I tried to show you that I could love you.
but you only thought of me as a friend,
I could of been more than just a friend.
but all I see myself is being a loser.
the pain of loving you would kill me inside,
so I pulled the trigger,
and I stop suffering,
but now I see you crying,
thinking why you didn't give me a chance.
even though, I forgive you.
just remember,
I was there for you.

Unrequited love is always painful and never resolved. You have captured the emotional depth well here. The first stanza really sets the scene well for the reader to understand the character a young man who is desperate to get noticed by the person he loves but doesn't know how to go about it resulting in a spiralling descent into emotional defeat. Best wishes Milly x
