Holding Back (Line Messaging)

by Sylvia   Dec 9, 2009

Giving a voice to thoughts and feelings,
writing and speaking words of adoration,
never revealing the entire truth,
lying by omission, holding back
from the one you cherish,
keeping them at arms length,
love won't be real.

Questions asked, never answered,
hiding behind forgetfulness,
avoiding them at all cost,
hoping they will go away,
leaving us to live in a fantasy world.

So much left unsaid,
causing doubt and pain,
an imagination left to run wild.
Doesn't love mean sharing
everything with that special person?
Friends saying things in passing,
not realizing it's one more dagger
to the heart, another thing held back.
Circumventing reality, trust is denied.

VERSE 1 LAST LINE Love won't be real,
VERSE 2 LAST LINE leaving us to live in a fantasy world.
VERSE 3 LAST LINE Circumventing reality, trust is denied.

Line Messaging, a poetry form created by Angel Favazza, is a poetic form wherein the poet utilizes the last line of each stanza to help represent an overall idea. So if the last line of each stanza is read together (separately from the poem) it will have an independent message or be a poem all on its own.

Note: No restrictions on the number of verses, but at least three to make the messaging work is preferable, no syllables to count, etc.,

*That's a good question...not sure how many people could answer truthfully. Anyways I really liked this piece. I'm gonna have to try it sometime soon. I love your message, a sad but true one. I think the message by itseld would be a good poem. I love and admire that you aren't afraid to try new ideas. Amazing poem. one I'm sure a lot of people can relate to. Nik*
