Time Seems Never Ending [Quatern]

by Melpomene   Jan 3, 2010

Whisper delicate hourglass,
sand upon fingers; birch of sway.
Poison viceroy 'neath she Selene
led plum constellations astray.

Misguided by Pegasus wings --
Whisper delicate hourglass,
for I buried tarots in tombs;
of crescent goddess endearment.

Monarch maiden misled magic,
Wood nymphs dance to silent dismay,
Whisper delicate hourglass,
as midnight strikes another day.

Cream clustered stars conceive decay.
As Sirens teach stellar to sing,
Thus time seems never ending, oh --
Whisper delicate hour glass.

A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It is similar to the Kyrielle and the Retourne. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern has eight syllables per line. It does not have to be iambic or follow a set rhyme scheme.
