The Leaves of Winter

by Lady Nik   Oct 29, 2010

The leaves have changed their
shape now, like all things
in nature do at a point in time.
Creatures are born, objects are destroyed
people die. A sad, harsh reality
called life.

You have met this fate.

Your shape has changed
and you will never be the same
again. Gone. A solitary word that
screams so loudly at me. My
beautiful heart you are, not were.
You beat inside me, exist inside me
forever this remains true.

It's not my time to change. Not my time
to end. This season needs me to flourish
but remember. Everyday I'm remembering
the way we came to be. The way you
captivated me, loved me, left me...

One day, one winter I will be with you
again. Until then the angel you've
become will help me raise the new
leaves of winter.

    Hey Nik,

Thanks for the suggestions on my poem. :] I usually read all your new ones; I just haven't been in a mood to comment lately. But since you did mine, it's only fair that I did yours, right? Haha. Mkay. Here I go.

I love this poem, mostly because I love winter-time and poems written about this time of year. There's something really beautiful and lonely about this season that I think a lot of people pick up on in their poems.

This poem about a lost loved one definitely fits into the season. They love you have for them and the hope you have that you'll someday see them again plainly shows through your words. I like how you don't beat around the bush, and it's so straightforward. Your poems are always a pleasure to read, Nik. :]

    Your shape has changed
and you will never be the same
    again.

-- I love this part. I love how you used the word "shape" here. It actually makes me think of a kaleidoscope and all the different colored shapes changing, which is beautiful. This poems is filled with saddness but in a beautiful way that makes it where you can't help but love the poem.

    Great job, Nik!

    Cayce. :]

The title captivated me and actually, I was took by surprise as I read on. The verses were so heartfelt and I loved reading your thoughts and how you will always remember, although he left you. Wonderful flow and a striking touch to the heart. Thank you greatly for your comment on my latest poem, I always love to hear from you and your kindness.

God bless and keep writing also!

Congrats on winning a share of first place. Leaves of winter, do change with time. They are born of leaves of spring, summer, fall, each season giving them a new and different look, ever changing.
