Transformation.

by Courageous Dreamer   Mar 12, 2011

I shape shift with all my power
into who I am,
whether it be -

a wolf with cattails dangling
from my ears as I track loyalty
with each step taken,

or perhaps like paradise,

when I am a whale
staggering alongside shores
of palm trees yet
overcoming death from
disintegrated emotion.

I rebirth with beauty
each time I transform
yet never stray
from my actual being,

for we don't see things
as they are, we see them
as we are.

    This poem interested me from the start. I love mythology and I got that from this poem. It was intriguing the way you mentioned characteristics of a shape-shifter and gave different animals in order to symbolize a different meaning. The contrast between the whale and wolf captured my attention, two creatures so different. This poem reminded me of two different personalities. Almost like wearing a comedy and tragedy mask. Perphaps this wasn't your attention but that's what I gathered from it and that's what makes a good poem, when somebody can write something and capture the audience on a whole other level. This was again filled with creative metaphors.

    Pleasure to read.

    Oh I loved this poem;
    very meaningful..

    opening lines lost me a bit, since u separated the 3rd line from "a wolf.."
    but then it worked well when i reached the line;

    amazing! as a result

    or perhaps like paradise,

    when I am a whale
    staggering alongside shores
    of palm trees yet

    I rebirth with beauty

    how flowing and well said...
    you just wrote something seriously perfect this time and clear.

    I love the ending, not very special since we hear it a lot, but definitely effective
