Candy-Coated Niceties

by Melissa   Aug 25, 2011

My retorts are bland,
like white rice
or some other undesirable food

yours are all doused in gooey saccharine
and decadent imagery,
mine have not the substance
to be as thick as your honey

they're overly prosy,
perhaps even, watered down colloquies,
with the way they ooze from each syllable,
never really sticking
to their worth

I crave syrup

A nice write with a simple and effective metaphor. Probably most poets feel the same way at some stage or other. The only thing I would change I think is that I would leave out this line as it doesnt really add anything:
    'or some other undesirable food'

Other than that though interesting read
