Till Death Do Us Part

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 20, 2012

My veins bleed through these
stoned hands- sleepless yet
nodding with a pulse.

I can't shake the sense
that my ten fingers
will one day be a gem
to someone, anyone,
without a prayer
headed towards them.

And I'll still write
even if the rest of my life
is full of yelling failures
and moments where I am stuck
in gravestones....
poetry will never leave me.

I won't pass into the next day
without those dreamless
nights where I take
what I've seen and heard
and share the story
of the broken.

Hungry yet not hollow,
for a throat and tongue
can be parched,
but the heart has a guarantee
for pain to lessen.

My body may scream
to the point of breaking,
the world around me may
grow rusty in the blink
of an eye- but my soul
is just beginning to rediscover.

Poetry,
don't you let me walk another step
without exploring in your shoes
and showing you
how I have never stopped loving you.

Remember how in just the other poem I made a comment about feeling connected to God throughout your poetry? Well, you've done it again.

I feel like you use a poetry to worship, to praise God and to also spread His word and message. You do so subtly, in such a beautiful way that you could never be accused of "ramming" it down ones throat like we often get accused of. I know you spoke of poetry here as your grace, something you will never let go of.. but you also use your poetry for a strong message like no other.

I find myself smiling while reading this entire piece, and it made me just stare in awe at the wisdom you hold. I often forget you are as young as you are - you have such grace about you that makes me feel like you've experienced much more, witnessed some blessings and truly can appreciate the good that you have in your life by understanding and helping the pain of others. You really are an inspiration, and not just through your poetry, but by the life you live and the person you've chosen to be. This is a beautiful poem, through and through, written by a beautiful person. No one can fake such beauty as this. My heart just warms knowing that there are good people like you on this earth that truly care, and not out of obligation or because they are told to, but because of this crazy love for people that none can truly understand. What a touching poem.
