Influenced

by Poet on the Piano   May 25, 2013

That promise of never being alone
is hard to believe from your eyes
when you, a man, live inside a broken family,
thinking the same thoughts I did at times,
wondering why they are married still.

What's that mean anyway?
Forget the stupid arguments, the immaturity,
remember the hurt.
Because time after time it's all the same,
miscommunication, no understanding,
no compassion,
and her heart is cast aside when she
needed him to anchor her up the most.

What makes me want to pull at my hair,
itch my skin, and resort to laying down
at the farthest corner of my bed,
is the fact that he has no grasp that
his relationship has an impression
on his son and daughter,
it breaks them, it shapes them,

until they start to find shadows
within themselves that tell them it
has to be this way forever.

-
[All we want is for her to have the very best,
but he seems to be lacking and it's always
for the same reasons]
-

There is no way to escape this influence...
