The Covert Hunter

Will my love be
daylight
I can catch with my eyes?

Or
will it mystify the ghosts
of all the souls misunderstood?

Will I arise from a trance
and find myself in caves,
where a man of only
darkness
tries to show he is more
than his silhouette-

as his scarred hands tremble,
and his lips twitch with
frustration.

[I need this moment to be ours,
please do not scream]

But though it is only his eyes
that seep terror and love
at the same breath of music,

I cannot stay.

He...unsettles me.

How do I know if this is love or fear
sparking electricity inside my bones,
creeping up to my neck
where I take cover

with hands too alike a story
that has no defining cracks.

Will my love be founded by
prey finally overcoming the hunter,
an overpowered dream I was
never supposed to repose upon?

Inspired by "The Phantom of the Opera" musical in a way...I know the relationship between The Phantom (Erik) and Christine can be taken in many ways depending on the interpretation of the actor. Some think he is just misunderstood, others believe he has always been obsessed and that he is not just in love, and so I just started writing after watching the Final Lair scene from the 25th anniversary where Christine has to choose between Raoul and The Phantom.
