The Lesser Things.

by Poet on the Piano   Jul 21, 2013

Lavender cardigan, vanilla
shawl, black satin dress,
cerise skirt, cerulean scarf-
all handed to me by
guiltless hands.
Hardly costing anything
but a simple interaction
from chatty strangers
who forget I cannot own
my past, let alone possess
these degenerate afterthoughts.

These are the lesser things
in my life, materials that have no
tips for seeking value,
yet sometimes they ignite
what is most important.

I've come to realize I hold no
sentiment, I don't cling to
these items to remind me of
home, only melancholia-
I was never apart from you,
you are not manifest,
just barely visible and
someday you will
enter...

and I will give you more
than I could give myself.

I like the use of clothings to describe your thoughts and how you incorporated this with your past. The truth is we can easily give of ourselves to another, but don't have the ability to give to ourselves in a meaningful way. This poem makes me think on many different angles and that's what makes it unique.
