Mortal Melody

She lies,
determination writ in each
and every line upon her face.
Her pale and crooked fingers ramble
over cotton sheets as if remembering
the feel of ivory beneath.
She stares,
eyes once bright with music
now refuse to focus on the dull
and dreary walls that hem her in.
Inside she weeps,
yet strength of will still rests
within this worn and weary frame.
She waits,
knowing that he will come
to sit beside her one last time,
and turn the time worn pages
of her final threnody.
It passed too soon.
Her ninety seven years have
disappeared into the past.
Her future calls,
and as she feels his warmth move close
a smile caresses once plump lips,
then to her ears alone a melody
takes shape and draws her home.

    This is brilliantly written. It wraps up a whole self-story. I enjoyed reading this over and over again because it leaves such an impact on the reader. Wanting them to search between the lines for more emotions, more info, some slipping words.

    I believe its one of the best poems for this weeek.

    Hats off for the flow and imagination skills. Very creative.
