Mondays @ 9

I was laughing along with the
receptionist as I usually do, new
sneakers on my feet with the
tags still on. I had only had one
cup of coffee, a rare thing.

Then we had our hour to talk
about the demons that itch under
my skin. Me crossing my arms,
trying to sink into the red couch
with two pillows I couldn't decide
where I wanted. You in a leather
chair across from me, waiting
for me to break my own silence-
my own demise.

You called me out on what I
wasn't saying, on the hesitant breaths,
my need to defend myself and those
I loved. But you made connections
where I wanted no person to go.

"Sorry for being so rude today,
you know I'm not usually this way."

"I don't take it personal, trust me.
You up in arms makes me think
we're getting to the root here..."

I kept denying but you gave me
a reality check. I needed that
metaphorical slap-in-the-face to
realize it's up to me, to realize
how much I do want to live.

That just "trying" isn't enough.
I need to be pushing myself
otherwise I'll be spinning in the
same cycle all my life.

I am going to make so much
more of my life than I thought was
possible.

So this is therapy for me. Sometimes it helps me to write out moments that occurred or conversations to reflect on and learn from.

    It was my top vote the following week.

    The writer speaks of intense details, such as "New sneakers with the tags still on" , leather chair and how pillows aren't as easily placed for the writer and how one cup of coffee was rare. These details are much needed as it brings a sense there is some OCD going on but most importantly it seems there is a struggle within. One of depression, which is a very serious subject for a lot of people. The poem explains the fight and struggle of depression. Wonderfully written poem. I enjoyed this poem because I feel we all can do much more with our life than we ever thought possible if only we believe in ourselve

    Loved the beginning to the poem and how descriptive as though it was almost a job you were referring to attending. Then hence the title, a weekly chore, one to release emotions, thoughts, feelings and the latest happenings. What I adored most was that there was never a mention of it actually being a psychiatrist but that the scene was described so it didn't have to be told. A lovely poetess once told me " you don't have to tell everything you know" that it's for the reader to determine. That is why I love this poem.

    In the second stanza shouldn't decided simply be decide?

    The style of this one is amazing and I love how honest all of your poems are, this is no exception. I know Maple Tree noted that she could relate and I think that there are so many people can.

    Yet another stunning write.

    MaryAnne,

    Great work and I praise you for sharing what is going on. Most people would do well to examine themselves with great care at least once in their life, but most refrain, as they don't want to be labelled in any way.
    Society is tough, but hardly ever as tough as we can be on ourselves. You show empathy for your Self in such a mature way, hats off, dear girl...I can tell you'll go places!
