Upon the Night

by AngelaLuisaCory   May 20, 2016

Upon the reign of darkest night
You strangle out the morning light
Demons touch the angel's wings
As cherubs play their starlit strings.

Your blindfold covers day's bright thoughts
Entrapped, ensnared in nets so taught
You choke the very joy from me
In veils of gauze-like tapestry.

But listen, I am crying out
I shift and turn and gasp and shout
My eyes are closed, I cannot see
Past darkest, frightening fantasy.

You vile and heinous gargoyled thoughts
Which blight and make my nights so fraught
Be gone! For I have built my tree
A fortress tall and strong and free.

You have a way of painting with words, so that when I read, I can almost see the characters.

    Hi Angela
Another great poem in the classic British tradition like Thomas Gray or Alexander Pope which paints glorious word pictures and transports us to another realm

Angela, hello, I hope you are well.

This is the 2nd optimistic poem I've read this morning. I admire your ability to create vivid imagery. Such as this part: In veils of gauze-like tapestry, and here:
You vile and heinous gargoyled thoughts. Both of these made my mind flip just a bit. I also appreciated the flow as your line length and rhyme made for a good read.

    A well written piece.

    Take care,

    Michael

I read this the other day and the rhyme throughout is flawless and unforced giving the piece a wonderful flow.
The dark imagery created with wonderful metaphors is excellent too.

    Great stuff.
