The Star of My Galaxy

by Kasie   Jan 30, 2017

I hold within my arms,
A bright and shining star.
Knowing that forever,
This galaxy is ours.

Orbiting around you,
The gravity's quite strong.
Traveling through space,
Just tugging me along.

Without your warming light,
Life would be undone.
For I am mother earth,
And you're my brightest sun.

Very good, Kasie. A lovely poem.
I have to be honest, though, for me it's not all about metre. Recently, I've actively tried to write some poems that follow no syllable count or metre just so that I'm not tied down by that all the time. I've read a lot of older rhyming poems recently and they don't all adhere to meter/syllable count. I do agree with Michael in that with meter the words can 'sing' but it can lock you up a bit.

    Take care

I had a sense of de-ja-vu when reading this. I commented on a poem written by Ben aka - Naughtymouse. Although this is different, it holds the same essence for me: the cosmos and the effects of gravity and stars.

I like this, but with your new metric knowledge I wonder if you could tweak the words to make the words sing?
