All Things Lost

by CJ Maleney   Mar 9, 2017

Once again I'm traveling
I know not where I'm going
That navigation thing is of no use
This path no map is showing

I keep walking down this path
Step by step, for this is not a race
So I keep on walking
Until I stop to rest

Sat here, I am waiting
Dangling my legs above the brink
I only stopped to rest a while
To find somewhere I can think

I can't sit for so long,
I also cannot stand
I need to move, to travel
To find out who and what I am

The times that I'll be still and wait
Itchy feet, the long stare and the pause
Am I fundamentally messed up
Or do I need to find a greater cause

Mountains flatten and fold to fields
Rivers turn smooth and turn to glass
but you gotta keep pressing on
Not sit here on your ass

Sometimes I often think
That I have lost my way
Thank god for stars you pull me back
You have again this day

People often wonder
If I am truthfully ok
The truth is I've not been for a while
But I can't think what to say

This is yet another fine example of your talent as a poet, your rhyming is sublime.

1/ Sometimes life feels like this, like we have nowhere to go even if there's many paths to take but even if there's a map would we fully or truly follow it .

2/ I like this because you're walking the path (I think of life) and you're taking each step at a time because as you say it's not a race and I personally think we should take each day as it comes and not rush ahead of ourselves.

3/ I wonder what you're waiting for.. Love, inspiration or just some boost in life. Who knows? But I like the imagery of you sitting there 'on the brink' just thinking about things, clearing your head as we all need time to think over things.

4/ I hear you. We all want to find out who we are but will we ever fully know who we are.

5/ I like the itchy feet thing here like you're trying to get up and move but can't.

6/ I don't know why but this made me laugh but I know its meant to be serious and I agree we can't sit on our ass if we want to change things we have to do it ourselves.

7/ love the thought of stars pulling you back when you think you've lost your way. My favourite stanza.

8/ The most used words are "I'm okay" even if we're not.

    Fantastic write, Em
