Is There A God?

by CJ Maleney   Mar 12, 2017

He is not a Christian
He or she is not a Hindu
But you can feel a presence there
That power flows within you

Not the one called Allah
And not a god of the Greeks
Not one of many Romans prayers
But everyone still seeks

Think upon your being,
Think where you began
Are you truly just an accident
Or part of a bigger plan

Belittle faith, deny it all,
And yet you all still hope,
The thoughts that many voiced
Found hanging by a rope.

I cannot name my god
Because he's never gave his name
But when my body turns to ash
I'll know that is his flame

I'll never be a bigot,
for I know that I could not
I'll speak my sins in private
Be it church, my home or mosque.

So when all you trust abandons you
When everything is lost
When you lift you eyes to find the light
Will you know there is a god?

Craig, I liked this alot. The rhyming is sublime and seems to read so easily off the tip of the tongue. If I'm honest I thought I was atheist at one point but I often find myself praying and asking myself where God is. I do believe someone is out there but who I'm not sure because would he really have the world on its arse? Anyway, I won't let my mouth runaway with me because it won't stop lol and just say that its a fab piece on religion but a shame religion causes all this agro.
    Take care, Em

    LOVE THIS POEM!!!

I remember writing a poem like this, perhaps it was a bit much for some as i got quite a bit of flack for it but i have to say i really love this poem. you word choice and meter is excellent but you VOICE in it speaks volumes.

Just in my opinion, the world would probably have a much more cleaner history if religion hadn't got involved.

    Great write fella.

I'm not exactly sure what I believe.

I don't believe we happened by pure fluke though. Think about the miles and miles of veins and things that flow through our pathetic self righteous race. Think about how many other species there are on this planet.

When you wake and feel the warmth of the sun. When you wake and see the first snow of winter.

When you walk or drive through a forest, when you walk or drive through clouds. When you pull back the curtain and see the mountains or the sea.

When you gaze into your children's eyes or your lovers and you feel nothing but love. Ask yourself is there a god?

I can't answer that but I do feel there is something greater than us.

I actually hope there is and I've said the odd prayer just in case.

Oh and big fella or mamma depending who or what you are, ya better be looking after my brother until I get there, because if not you and I will be having words
