Primal Urge

by CJ Maleney   Mar 13, 2017

What follows you is your own doubt
What follows you is your own fear
Run as hard as you feel you can
You can't escape, it's near

It's the beast that you made yourself
It's your own fangs that you see
You can try to bind and hold it back
But it's what your meant to be

You can swallow it and push it down
And can hold its jaws
You can knot, and tie and loop your rope
You can twist it round it's paws

You can take a pill and swallow it
Pretend that your not you
But when the hazy buzz soon wears off
You know that your still you

You can try to drown it in a glass
The alcoholic drunken snooze
But the alcohol swiftly absorbed
And you wake in that same groove

Your teeth remain your bite is there
And your finger nails intact
You stare upon those simple hands
As your mind starts to react

Cold water splashed upon your face
But the beast inside does pace
It's lips drawn back, it's fangs in sight
It wants to seek and find its prey

It will not sit there without cause or purpose
It will not be troubled by the moon
The beast is coming for you
And you know it will be soon
