The Death Of A Poet

by CJ Maleney   Mar 14, 2017

Another sleepless night
With things bounding round your head
You think upon the day gone by
Of the things you've heard and said

When you put your pen to paper
When your fingers hit those keys
Everything unburdened flows
You feel your soul is free

Sharing things we shouldn't
We hide behind a name
Some of us do it simply to vent
And some of us seek fame

So we write down all our fears and woes
Though our loved ones do not know it
Hanging by a thickened thread
Oops
There goes another poet

Craig, as Ben says whether this took 5 mins or 5 days its written and it is what it is which is (in my opinion) fantastic. The rhyming is spot on, the content is all true and I think when we can't sleep or are emotional we seem to write our best.

1/ Anything triggers' our poetic minds doesn't it? It could be something to do with nature, love etc etc and it could set us off, there was a post on the forum months ago about people watching as many of us do and just make stories up about them through poetry.

2/ I found myself nodding along here because when I need to write I can get a little frustrated when I start and cannot seem to write the right words and then when I write something to me that means something or feels right it does feel like the weight is lifted and I could fly if I tried he'd enough lol oh and for your info I use touchscreen to write everything and all my stuff is saved somewhere though my older stuff is written in a journal that I used to carry around with me

3/ Yes, we do share things that most of us wouldn't in real life but it helps some of us to vent and as you say some do seek fame which some have got and there's some fantastic poets out the there.

4/ This ending made me laugh

    Take care, Em

Sometimes and actually quite often I will write very quickly as I don't want to loose that thought to sleep. Hence they often have type errors.

Often as with this one I write backwards starting with the ending. I quite like doing this as it means it can go absolutely anywhere and often does.

      Thanks both for the comments

Craig you were right this made me laugh, which when i'm supposed to be all serious and at work doesn't help hahahaha

This is so true nonetheless, we write or type away our fears and woes (personally I still like to write mine for the most part on paper then type it up when i'm done) and sometimes it is just what we need to release.

Really nice observational piece here whether it took 5 mins or 5 days to write it doesn't matter as long as it's written.

Couldn't sleep tonight and this popped in my head. It took about 5 minutes. Max

I hope it doesn't offend anyone. It's kinda supposed to be light hearted. Well I chucked to myself at the last bit anyway.
