No Man Is An Island

by CJ Maleney   Apr 22, 2017

No man is an island,
Yet you can be that tree.
You're stuck there square and centred,
Where the sea can never reach.

Some how you're hydrated.
Your leaves forever green.
But your tips are edged with barbs,
Wounds just waiting to be.

Your trunk and core are notched,
So some can get a grip.
But you make sure that you leak your sap
To ensure that they slip.

Your roots are buried in the sands
That blow above the rock.
One island amongst many
Not discovered, or forgot?

The sand can store and can nourish.
And you may feel you're hydrated,
But all the time you stand alone
That thirst will not be sated!
