The Misfits

by Maple Tree   Jun 12, 2017

I write of peace in darkness
making friends with demons,
laughter with outcasts
and those that society is afraid of.

I've grown accustomed to the smell
of an unbathed person,
sitting in silence with them
as they talk of hunters in their heads.

I adore having conversations
with twenty people in one body,
their eyes follow my heart
when the echos become loud.

Fingers shake with hollow eyes
dirt consumes the very hands I hold-

I'm comfortable with misfits
because I'm a misfit as well....

It sadens my heart to watch especially elderly people to suffer from mental illness. It can happen to each and one of us. It also takes a special person to sit with them and listen and to brighten their day. You are certainly one of them. Be blessed

this spoke to me on a deeper level
    truly touched
    amazing piece, loved it :)

embracing your inner demons is not something everyone knows how! glad to see how you portrayed "mental illness and its sufferors" as something 'not negative' , unlike what most people do.

loved this one. so much relatable.
    thanks for sharing xx

    Andrea,

I love love love this poem. Because i can relate so much to this. I cannot relate to your perspective BUT i am one of the people you speak of, a misfit, outcast. Whichever word you want to use here.

I do love how you did this in your perspective though that is really telling. You get a glimpse of what it is like to see through the eyes of a person that cares. You get a small understand of what people don't see if they suffer from mental health. I love that point.

I also love how you tell the stories of the people and the different things they suffer from. Depression, ptsd etc, it is eye opening in a way because you don't truly realize how msny people truly suffer from mental health. As someone who suffers too i appreciate the fact that you share this.

How love how the character here (you?) Come across as a genuine heart because you do not judge the people you help. The ending i love because you are all in because you know what it is like to suffer too. So i bet many people can relate. You did an excellent job!

    Thank you for sharing this.

This misfit says if you change 'Thier' to 'Their' I will be able to nominate with a clear conscience.
