Misunderstood

by Walter   Feb 22, 2018

I'm tired of chasing your shadow
You are always one step away
You act like that you don't want me
Whenever I come to stay

You fill my heart with emptiness
And you never pick your words
Whenever I try and get close to you
You will make your feelings heard

You seem determined to continue
From the row we had last night
It seems like you won't even let me
To try to make things right

I don't know why the sudden change
What has happened in the last week?
It feels like you’re always on the edge
Whenever I try to speak

My mind can only wonder
Is it because you met someone else
It’s funny how you are so distant
And keep everything to yourself

I think I deserve an answer
And I want to hear it from you
This time I won't let you avoid me
It's about time you told me what’s true

I confront you in the evening
And you act like I'm not even there
I'm convinced now that you're cheating
And ask if you're having an affair

The look on your face just tells me
It's like you're trying to think up a lie
But all you can do is stare at me
While your eyes well up and cry

I'm feeling so angry at you now
That I just I turn and walk away
But the only words you can manage
Are begging me to please stay

I storm outside of your place
And slam the door when in my car
I roar my engine into life
Determined to drive real far

I can't believe that you would do this
This is the last thing that I need
I want to get as far away as possible
As I drive down the road at full speed

The last thing that I remember
The wheels squealing around the bend
As I lose control of my car
I find this is where my life ends

Now I see you over my grave
An emotional wreck and weak
But you're determined to tell me something
With these words that you manage to speak

"You are the only one in my life
And my love will always stay true
I have never nor will be with someone else
My heart always belongs to you

I was going to tell you that evening
But you were acting so angry and wild
I didn't want you to be mad at me
When I told you I was having your child"

If only I would have heard this
I would have never left you to drive
I wish that you would have told me
When I was still alive...

Omg the build up and the complete story of is so very well portrayed and rhymed... I couldn't get enough if that makes sense and the fast pace of the whole piece in my eyes was like a fast heart beat

Walter this is amazing. The rhyming and flow and the sad tale with a twist. I just hope someone nominates this because I'm fresh out of votes. Very well done its not easy to keep the readers attention on the longer poems but this had me gripped from beginning to end. Best wishes Milly x

    Walter,

this is a wonderful piece of rhyming poetry right through to the end, an incredible journey of so much sadness of betrayal and the consequences of such actions.
    Great piece my friend

Crikey Walter! I've got tears in my eyes reading this :-( What a sad, sad story and a good reminder to not jump the gun and make assumptions ... we all do it though. A fabulous twisty tale :-) x

Thanks Kitty and yes, we have all been there. What might seem so obvious to us at the time is no where near the truth. (Sorry about the tears!) x
