tale of darkened wine (collab with purvi)

by pmmurphy   Apr 2, 2018

The lines of our love are crooked —
ever spiraling,
ever twisting.
(as and when they desire)

What if I straighten them up for us,
will you walk on this path
with me?

A path where
I do not see an ending;
no journey in sight
as these eyes grow weary.

Will you guide me when my eyelids shut?
When they shut permanently
from the distant thoughts and forgotten words
I forever wished to etch in my diary?

Will you be my braille ending,
or will you continue to be my dark night?

I know —

I can feel the wounds of tomorrow
fresh on my soul,
the pain of yesterday growing forever more,
the dream of today abandoned
at the first sight,
and the ashes of my love
the breeze can not hide.

It swept me alright,
it keeps me off my feet -
where I love the idea of dancing in a sky
and praying I'll fall just right.

This breeze has gusts of a tornado
and I am wearing loosely fitted fabric -
ready to soar like a daredevil
who only seeks to fall down.

This is how you make me feel :
I always feel like I'm falling -
crashing;
leaving my wings for something old -
something I’ll never get.

I know I’m not worthy of you,
I know you still wear my cuts like a tattoo;
I haven't learned to pacify you in my heart,
I know I still breathe those embers that burn us apart.

But I still desire you.
Because I. Still. Love. You.
Even if it is only pain that you can give,
give me all of it that you store in you —

that heart of yours
overflowing with pain;
let it overflow into mine —
drink away your pains,
let me be, your wine.
