Candle of truth

by Courtney Hough   Mar 27, 2019

The candle has a steady burn,
And the rope just inches away.
As time goes one the candle creeps,
Time will soon make it fray.

While I wait on my chair,
That noose around my neck.
You grab that candle and bring it close,
And my heart begins to wreck.

A new life was brought to the world,
And yours; I guess I never knew.
As you hold the candle to the rope,
The rope snaps and I turn blue.

You watch me hang,
With lies and secrets suffocating.
But I guess it was my fault,
For keeping a flame by wearing a ring.

A commitment ring, like an engagement or wedding ring can make dreams come true, or in this case feel like a looming, perhaps inevitable strangulation.
The concluding statement says it all.
    A nicely constructed poem.
    Take care.

Wow, this really is a dark piece, Courtney, but it's well rhymed throughout and has some vivid imagery.

    Do take care
