The Story of my Heart

by TheDarkCloudBehindthePoet   May 14, 2019

There was a time,
in my life,
when I would have,
risked it all,
for love,

Whatever my lady,
needed,
I would give it,
to her,

My time,
money,
emotional support,
all my love,

But then,
love,
Did what it,
does best,
and broke me,

Shattered shards,
of my,
heart,
filled the cracks,
in the ground,

Heartless,
with a pain,
so great,
words can’t describe,

Love disappears from,
me,
That oh so,
familiar feeling,
of love,
vanished,

Only self-hatred,
depression ,
anger,
and worthlessness existed,

I tormented,
myself,
for years,
with memories,
of better days,

Now I’m scared,
of love,
and run,
from it,
every time,

But my feet,
are cracked,
and bleed rivers,
Not even the,
shards of my old heart,
can fill them,

No one should,
love me,
because I don’t,
love myself,

Only hurt,
sadness,
and anguish,
follows,
my spirit,

Stay away,
if you,
want,
to live.

The punctuation certainly adds to the feel and read of the piece. Milly x

I do like the short trailing stanzas you've used.

This is a sad piece, but I like how it’s written. There maybe a lot of punctuation, but in this case I like that it makes me feel hesitation, maybe of letting go!!
