Two Girls Walking on a Wall

by Larry Chamberlin   Jun 10, 2019

Youth rox!
Accountability is making the step
exactly on the syllable:
“Ali - ga - roo
Ali - ga - rah”
and jumping off on the perfect note
“Hah!”

The smile on my face
means you’ll always be my friend,
sisters of the summer;
no truth or dare
not accepted
and nothing could be dumber.

Spider Web and Lava games
transform every playground
to perilous adventures
but safe enough for baby sister
to join in (just Don’t Touch the Ground!)
This memory endures.

Let’s go see the park ducks,
bet their chicks have hatched,
I call the one I’m naming Emily.
Your mom says trouble
is our middle name;
guess that makes us family.
