Still missing you

by Yakari Gabriel   Jun 10, 2019

I’ve grown tired of your memory
the way it finds me,
everywhere
all the time
I would say that I never stopped missing you
and that would make me seem like a masochist
truth is you weren’t all that great to me
but our depression had the same face
I know how hard it is to live with my pain
so I know how hard it is for you to live with yours
I bet our traumas still long for one another
because we chose to nurture them
instead of healing
I still cry about it sometimes
and so, I cry about you too

And we have missed you! There’s a mask over the face of this poem. Lots of forgiveness but also slight resentment. The connection between these two people is described with a great deal of honesty and admission.

I'm so chuffed this is nominated. It's a rather thought provoking write.

Yaki, it's been awhile! Missed you <3

There's such a powerful connection you write of in this piece, how it had negatively affected you, how you weren't treated the best yet you bonded with this person on surviving and coping with pain.

The part about your traumas made me pause, because when you wrote about the difference between healing and nurturing, it made me think of what we cling to and let ourselves be overtaken by. Do we grow as a person or do we fall back on the pain and aches we knew, because it hurts to move on, too?

Love the opening lines of this poem. Past love does find us everywhere ... Such a sentimental ending <3

Keep penning this is a good write :)
