Laughter

by Mortal Utopia   Jun 10, 2019

We laughed
Until we forgot
The meaning of our laughter:
The who or what, the when or where,
The sorrows and tomorrows,
The yesterdays and holidays.
There was nothing, nothing,
More alluring than the deafening
Drumming of our diaphragms
And the grotesque humming
And hissing of our overworked lungs.
Light, light, then black –
Our laughter finally closed our eyes so tight
we only saw darkness,
Only to realise that this too
Was the colour of joy,
When we laughed together again.
