Survival

by Saerelune   Jan 13, 2020

You did everything right this time.

Every morning, mindfulness
emerged from your mailbox
(breathe in, breathe out)
demons from your digital drawers
drowned in ocean sounds.

Every step outside, swayed
by salsa songs, every run
raged with rock 'n roll,
squeezing out the sweat
from your self-destruction.

Every evening, your calendar
looked like colour-coded candy;
milestones were marbleised
as a fail-safe mechanism
from fleeing the future.

Days of endurance were your deposit,
but it didn't matter how much
you penned yourself in pseudo-rhyme,
when the weather kept whirling,
tearing each and every effort.

You didn't do everything right this time.
