Unexpected Tears

by Maher   Mar 3, 2020

Dedicated to my dear friend Sandra, who has fallen on black days: "Verily, to God we belong and verily, to Him we return" - Quran 2:156.
-------------------------------------

Down in the rabbit hole again.
The sky breaks down so rough
upon her fragile skin.
They say that hard times come in waves.
She flees to higher grounds
but never beats the change.

Then come the shadows in the rain.
A thousand whispers of the brain.
Here comes the hurt that never wanes,
singing like silence in a maze.

Now, where do I begin?
When rain that floods burns the heart
and time won't fail to win.
It just had to be so cold.
There he was and now he's gone;
she thought she'd never be alone.

Her veins grow darker by the day.
Every breath an anxious plea
in the hope she'd come to wake.
She believes that hard times never stay,
but waves keep crashing in
to wash her paths away.

Then come the shadows in the rain.
She hears them whispering his name.
They seek to draw her to their game,
but she'll not find him if she plays.

Where the hell could I begin?
When rain that floods burns holes
in what chance we had to win.
This just had to be so cold.
There you were, her sun and stone
and now she's breaking, all alone.

Won't you come back to your love
and her warm embrace.
Won't you come back to your heart;
it's beat, she craves.
Come on back to your daughter
and her teary face.
Come on back to your child;
your pillar of faith.

    A powerful piece that's full of deep dark vivid emotion. Death is very difficult to deal with and more so for some. Milly x

    Hello Maher,
    There is such a weight to this excellent poem. The sense of loss is overwhelming so acute your observations and how you portray them verse on verse until the whole poem captures the reader with a feeling of anguish and the rawness of it. A superlative piece, truly.

    Kind regards, Tony.
