Return to the Sea

by cassie hughes   May 19, 2020

Dancing sparkles shimmer on its undulating surface,
whilst gulls bob gently up and down
warming feathers in the heady heat of the sun.
Distant voices call and shout in a tumultuous
wave of happiness, and pulsing susurrations
of gravel, pushed and pulled against its will
tell of the tides relentless swell.

High on the cliff the watcher smiles wryly,
mourning the empty days of recent peace
now that summer is open again.

I love the ocean, and since I'm living in the middle of a desert at the moment, this is a soothing piece for me. Your wide vocabulary range gives life to this snapshot. I think it is a little over-worded in places, and doesn't breathe as much as it could, but still, beautiful!
