Change of Heart

by Walter   Nov 2, 2020

I leave you a note with a cross for a kiss
Don't forget about lunch this you can't miss
I'm sure that you won't and we'll meet up at noon
For our date we have planned this afternoon

Now it's eleven o'clock and still no reply
I'd thought you'd confirm just please don't deny
I presume you're busy and that's why you ignore
You'll probably be there when I walk through the door

I arrive on the dot but you are not here
Though I'm not concerned I'm sure you are near
I order a drink at our table for two
I'm sure pretty soon that I'll be with you

It's twelve thirty and you've not yet arrived
I'm starting to feel really deprived
The waitress keeps asking for my order to eat
And I can only point to your empty seat

I'm feeling annoyed and decide I will call
Though you let it ring as if to ignore
You finally pick up but it's me first to speak
And you know I'm not happy with the way I critique

You say that you're sorry but stuck in a jam
You cannot go faster as all the cars cram
I ask you to hurry as I've been waiting a while
But then lost the connection and try to redial

I bet you're in the tunnel that's still miles away
You've not just ruined lunch but my whole day
I try calling again and still can't get through
You've probably switched off that sounds just like you

I give up at one and it's now that I go
There's just no excuse why you didn't show
I waisted my work lunch and am leaving this scene
But my eyes are now caught at what plays on the screen

There's a huge TV just above the drinks bar
A news flash is showing what looks like your car
Your personalized plates I instantly saw
And a body under white sheets lies still on the floor
