I began to question

by Skyfire   Jan 3, 2021

We were walking
along the edge -
and reminiscing
about the way
your heart first leapt
and how,
when intertwined,
our knuckles fit just so.
Your eyes widened
and I gasped for breath
at the suddenness
of space
between our bodies
and I closed my eyes
to the cold descent
trying to
puzzle out if I
had fallen
or
if I had
jumped.

I enjoyed the format, but more than that the way you conveyed the journey of realisation that, yes, they are gone.

Beautifully written, you captured that moment of disarray perfectly - it honestly can feel like certain death when we're no longer with the one we love.
