a memorial of flowers.

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 28, 2022

i'm trying to keep my composure
while cutting the flowers i just
bought for you -

they were overpriced,
the leaf wilting and stem bent,
but the white chrysanthemums
made me think of you.

there wasn't much else that caught
my eye, except for the magenta
butterfly added to the bouquet.

and i stood there, at the front of
the store, as people bustled around me,
not knowing, not knowing.

i bought these flowers for you,
knowing you'll never see them,

knowing it's simply for my own
comfort, to feel like i'm close
to you once more.
