[i asked you to] cover me

by Poet on the Piano   Mar 17, 2024

you left me to
fend for myself
among roaming lions
[i barely had a voice]

then
you ripped my throat out
after convincing me
i could talk my way
out of the advances of death

i used to levitate
until you drowned me

buried my confidence

it was in the heat of
summer
and still my mind
shivered
at the thought
of trying to be
everything for you
