A Mother’s Cry

by charbel   Jul 5, 2026

Take your hand close to my heart
Let it rest and let it sleep
My baby, my soul, my little light
The part of me I could not keep

I wish I heard your heartbeat
Calling softly out my name
I wish that I was there instead
And I carry all this shame

Baby, why don’t you answer me?
Why won’t you blink your eyes?
They tell me you are gone from me
But they are telling lies

Who will I sing my lullaby to?
Who will I hold through the night?
How can morning come again
Without my baby in my arms?

Who will I rock in the cradle?
Who will I kiss goodnight?
Sleep, my child, my little angel
Sleep beyond the light

Six months old, taken from me
How can this be fair?
I touch the silence on your face
But I do not dare

Tell me where it hurt you
I will make it go away
Just one word, my little child
Talk to me today

Sleep well and rest your little head
My heart, my moon, my son
I’ll tell you stories of this land
Until the night is done

Who will I sing my lullaby to?
Who will I hold through the night?
How can morning come again
Without my baby in my arms?

Who will I rock in the cradle?
Who will I kiss goodnight?
Sleep, my child, my little angel
Sleep beyond the light

Time stood still beside you
I saw you lying there
How can a mother cross this grief?
How can a heart bear fear?

Take my heart, take my eyes
Take my mind away
I cannot see you like this
I cannot face the day

Where is God? Where are You?
Come and see my pain
What have hands of war done here?
What have they taken again?

Who will I sing my lullaby to?
Who will I hold through the night?
How can morning come again
Without my baby in my arms?

Who will I rock in the cradle?
Who will I kiss goodnight?
Sleep, my child, my little angel
Sleep beyond the light

You died once, my baby
But I die every day
With all my tears I whisper
Rest in peace, I pray

Sleep well, sleep soft
No more fear, no more cries
My baby, my heart, my little light
I will love you beyond the skies
