Owl

by Robert   Sep 3, 2004

Perched high above so I can see,
a vast land telling me that I am free.
By night I have come to feed on all that is small,
and in the hollow shaft of my home I litter their bones along my wall.
I have been told that my wisdom goes beyond my age,
but in life I see my fellow breed die for a wage.
They hunt our masses like cattle and without care,
leaving our kind in constant despair.
I see them in Lodges froze without life,
and this fate was given to even my wife.
How could they kill what they refuse to eat,
for they will even cast away our meat?
What type of villain will do this to any thing,
doesn't it see the life we bring,
Why does it take with no concern?
and consumes life like fire burns.
Please tell me this is not so,
for I only see mankind as a foe.

I really like poems about nature and this one is no exception. I find that the Nature section of Poems and Quotes is where some of the best poems are found. I like writing Love poems and find that I incorporate many nature themes into them. There are a lot of poems in the Love section but there are only a few that really shine where in the nature section I find the opposite. Most of them are very good. I enjoyed your poem and hope to read more from you in the future. If you like trees you can read a poem I wrote called The memory of my shadow. The poem Searching also has a nature theme - I wrote this way too long ago when I was a kid and have thought many times to rewrite it as an adult. But somethings are better left the way they are no matter how badly you wish to change them.

Your work as far as subject matter is good although at times it became choppy

Excellent. Reminds me of a pet owl that I had as a child. It had been shot and brought home to live in our tree. Needless to say, it died of gangrene. It was so sad!
