The Inner War

by Robert   Oct 30, 2004

Whisper me some words that I want so much to hear,
and shudder as I tell you all of what I fear.
To know another path that would be so foreign to me,
another light at the end of the tunnel to set me free.
What courage I must harness to take a step into where I know not of,
and is this venture worth all that I love.
Tell me this time should I take fate by the throat and bend it to my will,
to capture a future of love and maybe be my biggest thrill.
To speak without regret and say what I have in my heart,
or will it be the damn thing that will ripe me apart.
I am man like any other wanting just this one time to do what I think is right,
but the turmoil within me rages like a fight.
My heart and head do battle while my soul falls to its wake,
is there no way out of this hell for God sake?
My wounds bore into me with every hurtful word from you,
and as I ponder I know now what I must do.
Soldiers have perished in wars Kings have been cast down from there thrown,
but this is my conflict and the loss will be my very own.
No weapon of steel or fire will blaze the path to win,
it will all start and stop with a kindly grin.
The war I speak of is to just say how are you,
and hopefully that will cast me in doing what I have to do.
Speak softly and let her know my will once and for all,
for by her reaction I shall either rise up or see my final fall.

Well done. Unusual how the structure of the poem is like a huge stanza, I like smaller stanzas.. but we all prefer different things! Anyways, you did a great job again. The flow of your poems are amazing. It takes a lot of talent to be able to make all of your poems rhyme and sound so fabulous all together. Well done. 5/5.
