Great Expectations

by Heather M Craig   Oct 31, 2004

Sometimes the things we wish for
are not always what we can have
and the things we got and betray
are not always that bad.
each time we meet someone
we expect everything to go so great
but as time moves on, they can even become the things we hate.
great expectations are fake-
when everything is really impossible,
they lead us to our fantasy land
full of perfect little people.
no one is ever good enough
and no one is who they seem.
we all want so much more
but that can only be found in our dreams.
maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people
so we know when someone is right.
and when i find that person,
i will think God every single night.
great expectations is something
i have learned to give up in
I've learned to accept everyones flaws
and to just always be a true friend.

Wow, good poem. Unfortunately I have had to do the same thing. I'm a perfectionist, and have had to learn the hard way that no human is perfect. Wonderful job!
