Trying to Be One of Them

by Shana   Feb 2, 2005

She looks into the mirror
and despises herself
She doesn't look like the "it" girl
She does not roll in wealth

The magazine cover shots
of all the superstars
Those people are so perfect
They drive those fancy cars

Everyone tells her that no ones perfect
but she denies that very small fact
Everyone should be different
Different is what attracts

Always on that special diet
This illness moves at a fast rate
She cries herself to sleep at night
Always trying to lose more weight

She considers cosmetic surgery
to get rid of her baby fat
The media gives her the ideas
Which makes her think all that

This goes for everyone
The subject is now dropped
Just think about what I said
"This epidemic must be stopped"

Powerful work and message. Very well described. The rhyming didn't seem to interfere with the actual message of the poem either. Cleverly written.
If this is about you, I'm sorry you feel like this, but just be thankful you have the capability to express yourself as well as you have done here. I'm sure you have many other brilliant talents too. It's just finding them.
    Keep your head high.
    All my love,
    Laura.
