Epitaph

by Heather M Craig   Mar 11, 2005

-first of all an epitaph is the inscription on your tombstone. I didn't write this for the plan of death but I had to for my poetry class...-

I saved the next generation,
each young soul that walked me
I jumped like rapid waterfalls
when one helpless child was in need.
Among my personal naive nation,
I created the family I never had
like I always swore I would
but all I want to be remembered for
is the things they said I never could...
the numerous books from my reticent soul,
my poetry, the passion of my desire
where I poured out the abashed heart
and tears extinguised my fire.
The way I left, however, is the way I saved,
but empathy drowned the soul of I.
I failed the world with simplicity
and broke my chains with suicide.
