All We Are

by Aken Sol   Apr 30, 2005

They say everyone has
their own road to walk
but, you know, sometimes
I think we're all alone,
just stumbling along
I guess, in our own forests
and they're all wrong
because there are absolutely
no paths at all
and we're lost.

Lost in our minds
and in our emotions.
We're trapped, all alone.
No one to turn to except ourselves
for the strength, courage, and hope
which we gave each other.
How can we leave our past behind?
We've grown so much
and we've done it together.
How can we part ways?

I've always felt we were secret brothers,
denounced separately from society
as outcasts, but we found each other.
Sharing moments time cannot comprehend;
blind leading the blind in sunshine.
I guess you caught your sight because you left
when you found your road without me.
Eternally lost for a moment of
belonging, leaving no tears of regret
as I'm left standing alone in the night.

Being alone has
left us for the better.
Sharing a soul, as Lennon said
and everyone knows,
"I am he as
you are he as
you are me as
we are all together,"
which is why we can't
ever stay together.
I guess, suppose, who knows
we're separate; dissevered.
And everyone,
now I know that,
well, we're lost,
lost in our forests
forever.

While I tend to like more rhythmtic poems, I really did enjoy it. It had apparent meanings that you expressed well, and I loved its progression throughout. 'Lost in our forests', I love that interpretation. It makes the reader reveal things of their owns and take out the personification and really think about it. Well Done!

I really felt the frantic, multi thought aspect to this poem....it looked on the surface confused and irratic...but given the nature of the topic...that is exactly the feeling you were tryint o evoke right?...a person who is intelligent and aware of many angles to life, trying desperately to bring it all together into one coherant consciousness stream.

    It works...hard to read..but i get it.

I love how I'm the only one out of the three of us who actually wrote this poem to actually say it was written by more than one person so the feel shouldnt flow as well. Thanks for the credit Ken...
