Masquerade

by Poetically Speaking   May 3, 2005

Copy your reflection,
be exactly who you see.
You try to find the perfection,
you try and be free.
Confused by this recollection,
it taunts you to give in .
Where lays your affection,
in you or in your skin?

Is this who you really want to be?
Just creations of your own,
trying to copy what you see.
Finding out you\'re really alone.
Listening to the vision talk back,
you try and hear its words,
but they leak out black.

Do you know what you really are?
A desiring lost heart,
living in a mind gone afar.
Seducing delusions,
behind these illusions,
you’re slowly breaking apart.
You ensnare these needs,
it gets so damn confusing,
it gets hard and harder to breath.

The image of you fades,
leaving nothing to see but an aspiring charade.
Hungering for perfection you wane,
dying and draining,
you\'re melting away.

The sooner you realize that behind these eyes,
behind the shell there is life.
This skin is just a disguise,
trying and trying, trying to hide.
Where will you die?
At heart,
or on the outside?
