I was a bastard but you were so kind

by PAUL HEWSON   May 20, 2005

What you took , i can not replace
not with time or with pace
what you left is an empty space
i feel awkward now and so out of place

you were the leader and i was the blind
you were the first and i was behind
whatever i lost you always could find
i was a bastard but you were so kind

you gave me hope and you gave protection
showed me love when i needed rejection
now that your gone i miss your affection
maybe now is the time for refection

what you took i cannot replace
god i miss your beautiful face
what you left is an empty space
my empty life in my empty place

This poem is brimming with honesty! I like the strength behind your words! I especially liked these lines:

"you gave me hope and you gave protection
showed me love when i needed rejection"

It really hit home with me~Holly
