Son's Life Need

by abcede   Jun 25, 2005

A father and son
both one of a kind
were "down-to-earth" folk
that's quite hard to find

they lived to their best
working day by day
nothing could break them
their trust wouldn't sway

they were best of friends
forever and always
this was so special
the love would not phase

the son grew on up
became a dad too
though they were older
their ties were still true

some twenty years past
his dad just got ill
life came to a halt
his spine sent a chill

oh, what would he do
without his best friend
he hoped and he prayed
it wasn't the end

while they waited
in that small room
he quietly thought of
the worst to assume

after long hours
and stresses full peak
his son grew weary
results he did seek

the doctor cam out
with a smile on his face
his prayers were answered
from up-above grace

then the years past
things were just great
there were no worries
of eventual fate

until that one phone call
late night in his bed
a call from his sister
said, "daddy is dead."

his knees became weak
all life he knew stalled
he slowly fell down
forever he bawled

his daddy was gone
his life line; his rock
nothing made sense
he was in total shock

the funeral came
then followed by tears
his dad lived a good life
of eighty-three years

a stranger came up
to the son and said
this was from your dad
then the son read...

"son, you are the one
who helped me get through
you gave me my strength
through days i thought few

whenever i look
look back, then i see
you're my life-line; my rock
son, you are my key

you're my key to life
you are my best friend
yea, cliche, but I'll
love ya 'til the end

but when i am gone
you need help to get through
just always remember
that i love you!"

and with that letter
then son felt a calm
he had his life need
right there in his palm
