Night at restless dawn

by RainbowSlider   Oct 2, 2005

Fireflies flickering
laughing at the dark.
Just enough light to see
and then off again.
A rooster with no watch
crows to himself.
A dog barks in the distance,
we barely know he is there.
Creatures of the night
prowling before sun up.
Bats hanging and twitching.
Paying attention to no one,
a cat purrs quietly
with motor up too loud.
Awareness quickening
to our touch.
A refrigerator kicks in
for a while then kicks off.
Happy crickets are alive
in a desperate attempt to talk.
A coyote's eyes can
be seen as red
just like the whip-poor-will.
An owl takes to flight
as a tomcat jumps in vain.
A television left on
statically plays
with the friendly face
of a test pattern.
Deja of a day
yet to be born
as memories come too early.
The crickets get louder
protesting the silence
as a distant car is slammed.
Night flowers bloom
opening up to the moon.
Life is alive
but is just
tactly quiet.
Soon it will
be over
when dawn light
awakens the day.

As a mainly late night writer, I can really appreciate and relate to this.Again, your images are simply wonderful, you paint such a vivid picture of everything you describe, there are so many great lines. This flows beautifully, is well constructed and is an excellent poem, both in content and form.
