Over the Years

by Matt Carroll   Jan 4, 2006

For ten long years you've known me
You were like the the father I needed so
When no one else offered a hand
You'd take me in, it was never, "no"

Over the years you've watched me grow
And aided me a lot along the way
I wish there was something I could do
Somehow your love and kindness, to repay

After all this time, you've helped me
Your words and advice remain at heart
I'll not forget one word of it
I trusted you from the very start

Now just recently, you left us
Answering to the one Lord's call
I will not lie, this deeply saddens me
For you always caught me when I'd fall

For years to come, I'll remember
The joy, and all the good times
I know you're out there, watching me
Your presence still brightly shines

I loved you like a father
You cared for me like a son
On my mind and in my heart
Even when I was on the run

So Wally, thanks for all you gave me
I'm sorry it's ended this soon
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers
As I stand in tears, below the Moon

In Loving Memory of Walter Gauthier

That's a very sad story Matthew. I can tell you put a lot of emotion, and you poured your heart out into this poem. That gave it the extra kick and made this a beautiful piece. A really good write, and I look forward to reading more. Sorry about your lost.

Thanks alot for the comment on my poem.
