Take No Prisoners (short poem)

by Matt Carroll   Aug 14, 2020

Smoke on the horizon, fire in the distance
The path to safety farthest from the path of least resistance
Lack of oxygen, this reality is quickly fading
Slow and steady, friends, for it's their paradise we're raiding

Interesting poem! This felt urgent, a restlessness in wanting to better the world even when others don't see the need for it. Then, you call for "slow and steady", and the use of "paradise" made me think of those in power or those who are living in luxury, completely ignorant, or purposely refusing to see the struggle of the people. Definitely had a dystopian feel to me, or at least breaking the mold of those who think everything is fine in this world. Also, could this be a commentary on climate change? The inability to breathe as well as in the past, questioning what the future will be like, demanding change. Also, knowing that you can't always travel the least resistant path. You'll always be met with someone pushing back.

It might be a short poem but it certainly does the job. Great imagery and rhyming with valid message. Milly x
